Mark Sanchez injury: Jets QB has bruised right shoulder joint, per report

Sanchez is considered day-to-day after leaving the Jets’ third preseason game in the fourth quarter.

Mark L. Baer-US PRESSWIRE

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has a bruised right shoulder joint and is considered day-to-day, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Sanchez left New York's preseason game on Saturday night in the fourth quarter after taking a big hit behind the team's third-string offensive line. Rookie Geno Smith started the game for the Jets, and Sanchez played deep into the second half.

Sanchez was 5-of-6 passing before leaving the game, while Smith threw three interceptions and took a safety. Sanchez hasn’t had the best preseason, tossing two touchdowns to go with two interceptions, but Smith has taken some time to get adjusted to the pro game.

Lucky for Jets coach Rex Ryan, he won’t be forced into playing Smith right away. Sanchez doesn’t have a major injury and will continue to compete for the starting job. But as Ryan has made perfectly clear, the team is not yet ready to name a starting quarterback.

Ryan better choose carefully, because he may have the hottest seat of any NFL coach heading into 2013.
