NFL news roundup: Kevin Kolb injury, Jarvis Jones released from the hospital

The Bills are making moves that suggest Kolb may not play for them again.

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Spor

The Buffalo Bills have had a wild preseason, particularly at the quarterback position, where both E.J. Manuel and Kevin Kolb have missed time with injuries. Kolb most recently suffered a concussion on Saturday night, and according to reports from the Buffalo News, the team fears it could be career ending.

Kolb has a history of concussions, so the risk is there, depending on the severity of the most recent injury. Kolb is just 29 years old and in his first season with the Bills.

Here’s some other news you may have missed on Sunday.

Jarvis Jones released from hospital

Rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones suffered a chest injury during Saturday night's preseason game between the Steelers and Chiefs, but was released from the hospital on Sunday after tests came back negative. Jones, a first-round pick out of Georgia, was diagnosed with a chest bruise. His status for the team's final preseason game is unknown.

49ers beat the Vikings 34-14

It felt like an actual football Sunday as the VIkings and 49ers took the field on Sunday Night Football. San Francisco thoroughly beat Minnesota thanks to a few big plays on special teams and the overall depth of the roster. Christian Ponder looked solid for the Vikings, though, tossing a pair of touchdowns.

Mark Sanchez has bruised shoulder joint

Rex Ryan was criticized for keeping Mark Sanchez in the game too long on Saturday night after his quarterback got injured in the fourth quarter behind the third-team offensive line. But the initial diagnosis of the injury is positive for Sanchez, though he's not expected to play in the Jets' final preseason game.

Matt Leinart signs with Bills

The Bills are proceeding as if Kevin Kolb will not be able to play for them ever again. On Sunday, Buffalo signed Matt Leinart and traded for Thad Lewis. Leinart spent last season with the Raiders, but has been mostly ineffective during his NFL career. But the Bills didn't have much of a choice. With both Kolb and Manuel injured, Jeff Tuel was the only healthy quarterback on the roster.
