Donte Stallworth released by Washington Redskins

Washington has moved on from the Stallworth experience, looking toward other players to make plays on the outside.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Redskins cut Donte' Stallworth on Sunday, according to Pro Football Talk.

Washington made Stallworth one of the earliest cuts on the preseason, perhaps giving him a chance to catch one with another organization. Stallworth has bounced around the NFL during his 11-year career, playing for six different franchises.

Over the past seven seasons, Stallworth has been in a different uniform each time, including two tours or duties with the New England Patriots and Redskins. In the first four years of his career, Stallworth made his name with the New Orleans Saints.

His final season in New Orleans, 2005, was his most productive. Stallworth caught 70 passes for 945 yards and seven touchdowns. Since then, the ex-Tennessee Volunteer has been inconsistent and caught just one pass last year with the New England Patriots.

Off the field, Stallworth made tragic headlines in 2009 when he struck and killed Mario Reyes with his vehicle. He was charged with DUI manslaughter, receiving community service and 30 days in jail.
