Saints vs. Texans 2013: New Orleans defense inconsistent

New Orleans stayed undefeated in the preseason with their win over Houston.

The New Orleans Saints beat the Houston Texans 31-23 at Reliant Stadium on Sunday afternoon, improving their preseason record to 3-0 under reinstated coach Sean Payton.

New Orleans once again looks like the team we've seen in recent years from the Big Easy. After falling behind 10-0 quickly, the Saints rallied with a quick-strike 51-yard touchdown toss to Pierre Thomas before eventually taking a 17-16 halftime lead.

Backup quarterback Luke McCown looked very sharp in the second half, completing 10- of 14 passes for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Saints rolled up 380 total yards, but also allowed an astounding 496 total yards to the Texans -- including 355 passing yards.

There were some players who were making plays on the Saints’ defense, though. Over at Canal Street Chronicles, Dave Cariello points out some of the better performances.

Ramon Humber was probably the defensive standout of the game. He led the team with 5 total tackles. The play of the game, however, was on a crucial 3rd quarter goal line stand, stuffing Deji Karim on 4th down right on the goal line.

Cameron Jordan and Glenn Foster both had a sack each. Both have been great this preseason.

Kenny Vaccaro played with his usual aggression. Love to see that.

New Orleans will wrap up the preseason schedule against the Miami Dolphins on the road Thursday night.
