Arian Foster injury: Texans RB feels ‘fresh’ and ‘rejuvenated’

Houston’s star running back is on the field once again and ready to play some football.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is back on the active roster with his strained calf and back issues now a thing of the past, and according to Monday Morning Quarterback's Peter King, Foster feels great.

“You ask any player: ‘How’d you enjoy the lockout season?’ Great time. You had a chance to train without [having to] practice every day. When you got back to training camp, everyone felt fresh. That’s exactly how I feel right now. Over the past couple of months I had the chance to just train and rehab and work on my body and didn’t have all those carries in training camp. Even during camp I got a long rest [because of the back injury]. It’s usually a grind. Now I feel fresh. I feel rejuvenated.”

Foster has been the biggest workhorse in the league over the past three seasons, getting more offensive touches than any other player. However, the action has been taking a toll on the former undrafted free agent. In 2010, Foster averaged 4.9 yards per carry before watching that number slip to 4.4 in 2011 and then 4.1 last year.

Despite the drop in production in terms of average yards per carry, he remains the focus of the running game for the Texans. With the Texans shaping up as a Super Bowl contender, Foster is vital to Houston's run-first offense in tandem with Ben Tate. Alongside Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins, few teams can match the dangerous trio of weapons that Matt Schaub enjoys.
