Stephon Gilmore injury: Bills CB out 8 weeks with ‘hand/wrist issue’

Buffalo’s injury woes continue with the news that their top cornerback will be unable to play until October.

Buffalo Bills second-year cornerback and former first round pick Stephon Gilmore is out for eight weeks with a hand/wrist injury, according to Fox Sports 1's Mike Garafolo. The Bills have been hammered by injuries already, but unfortunately the bad luck has yet to run out.

Gilmore was expected to start and be Buffalo's top corner in 2013 before being hurt against the Washington Redskins last week. The Bills are now left to wonder who will be capable of shutting down the opposition's top receiver. Gilmore made 61 tackles while forcing three fumbles and snagging one interception last season.

Over at Buffalo Rumblings, Brian Galliford believes the team will turn to another former first round pick in Leodis McKelvin.

Gilmore is far and away the team's top cornerback, and the Bills will be scrambling to replace him in the lineup. Leodis McKelvin now becomes the top cornerback for the foreseeable future, and players like Ron Brooks, Nickell Robey, Justin Rogers and Crezdon Butler will compete for playing time on the other side of the field.

In a best-case scenario, Gilmore will only miss the first six games of the regular season. That would mean he misses contests against the New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, though, among a couple of other easier games.
