Buccaneers roster cuts: Tampa Bay begin cuts, send two to IR

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers began trimming their roster down to 75 on Monday.

Teams are in the process of trimming their rosters down to 75 players, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got a jump start on the proceedings by releasing seven players, and adding another two to injured reserve.

Running back Michael Smith and cornerback Anthony Gaitor will return to the Buccaneers, but won't see action until 2014 after being placed on injured reserve. Smith appeared in only one game in 2012, and the Buccaneers have players to mitigate his loss, but the absence of Gaitor could have larger repercussions. Tampa Bay now needs to find a kick returner, a long-standing issue for the organization.

The only player cut Monday who was with the Buccaneers last year is defensive end Markus White, who appeared in two games but failed to register a tackle. Here is a full list of the players released on Monday:

  • WR Derek Hagan
  • WR Carlton Mitchell
  • FB Spencer Larsen
  • S Troy Nolan
  • DE Ernest Owusu
  • QB Adam Weber
  • DE Markus White
