NFL roster cuts 2013: 49ers release 5 players
The San Francisco 49ers are beginning to trim their roster to 75 players.

Tolzien was the only tenured member of the 49ers cut Monday. He joined the team in 2011, and failed to take a regular season snap in his two seasons. Tolzien's preseason career in San Francisco was mostly a series of failed opportunities. He had the chance to compete for the backup spot behind Colin Kaepernick this year but was beaten out by Colt McCoy, who was acquired by San Francisco for two late-round draft picks before April's draft.
