Greg Childs injury: Vikings WR placed on reserve/PUP list

Childs has yet to return to practice after undergoing surgery on both knees in August 2012.

Bruce Kluckhohn-US PRESSWIRE

The Minnesota Vikings officially ruled out a return for wide receiver Greg Childs any time soon, with the team announcing a move from the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list to the reserve/PUP list on Tuesday.

Childs, 23, has not yet played an NFL snap as a freak injury that resulted in torn patellar tendons in both knees, ended his rookie season before it had ever begun. Over a year removed from the injury, the Vikings are still hopeful that they’ll be able to receive contributions from the 2012 fourth-round pick, but the team will have to wait longer.

Now on the reserve/PUP list, Childs will not be eligible to join the team until after at least six weeks of regular-season play. Even that might be wishful thinking though, as Childs has been unable to practice at all with the team despite being a full year removed from surgery.

Childs suffered a similar knee injury during his junior year with the Arkansas Razorbacks and accumulated only 21 receptions for 240 yards with no touchdowns in his senior season in 2011.
