NFL roster cuts 2013: Dolphins release 9 players

Jorvororskie Lane and Lance Louis were two of the more notable names among the Dolphins’ nine cuts on Tuesday.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins released nine players on Tuesday, trimming their roster to the league-mandated 75 players prior to the 4 p.m. ET deadline. There weren't many big names released on Tuesday, but Miami will have to release 22 more players by Saturday.

The biggest names appearing on the list were fullback Jorvorskie Lane and and guard Lance Louis. Lane started five games and scored three touchdowns for the Dolphins last season while Louis made waves when he was signed in April after starting 28 games for the Chicago Bears over the past three seasons.

Louis was only paid $125,000 of his contract, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Brian McIntyre, despite signing a $1.6 million deal earlier this year. That’s because his contract was apparently full of caveats due to an ACL injury he suffered last year, forcing the Dolphins to only pay him his signing and workout bonuses as long as he didn’t make the regular-season roster.

The remaining seven players cut on Tuesday were linebacker Michael Clay, wide receiver Jeff Fuller, defensive end Emeka Onyenekwu, wide receiver Julius Pruitt, wide receiver Andrell Smith, linebacker Nathan Williams, and linebacker David Hinds.
