Trent Richardson confident in Browns’ offense

Trent Richardson has developed better chemistry with his offensive line and feels confident about the Browns’ offense going into his second season.

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson appears to be making leaps and bounds in his second NFL season. Richardson missed the entire preseason in his rookie year with knee surgery, but he was a full participant this year and used the opportunity to get more chemistry with his offensive line. From the Browns' official site:

“It’s so much better,” Richardson said. “Last year, I just went right into the fire. Now, it’s time to get better and better each day. The offensive line is making better communication...Everything is on point. Our coaches are communicating with the offense, getting the plays in and out. With the timing, it’s a big, important thing. I think it’s gotten so much better over the past few weeks.”

Richardson feels confident in the offense, now run by head coach Rob Chudzinski and offensive coordinator Norv Turner:

“I know the game plan is to be one of the best offenses in the league, to be a good, balanced offense,” Richardson said. “You go in, game-in and game-out, and know from the practice how good you’ve been running this play.

Richardson struggled with knee and rib injuries in his rookie year, but he still managed to play in 15 games, rushing for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns and adding 51 catches for 367 yards. He’s been healthy so far this year, missing scant practice time and getting 13 carries for 64 yards in three preseason games.

The Browns have quietly built one of the best offensive lines in the league, and if Richardson continues to gain more chemistry with them, he could remind everyone why the Browns took him with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
