The title of "league's best cornerback" is something that the Seahawks' Richard Sherman has been claiming all year, but Darrelle Revis' answer to that is quit simple: He doesn't understand why Sherman is trying to claim anything at all. In fact, Revis says that all of the players are supposed to be working together as a "fraternity," as Revis told USAToday Sports:

Few players in the NFL talk as much as Sherman and he’s directed a lot of that at Revis. What is Darrelle’s answer? Enough talking.

“He needs to quit attaching his career to my career,” Revis said. “A lot of people need to have respect for this game. I’m not just talking about him. Respect what people have done to pave the way. Deion paved the way. Rod Woodson paved the way. Darrell Green. Mel Blount. Champ Bailey. Charles Woodson. Yeah, we’re the next group, but you don’t need to be getting into it with me.”
It appears that Revis doesn’t only want to avoid the feud with Sherman, that he wants to work together to make the league as good as it can be. Revis doesn’t appear to be a fan of insults and trash talk:
“At the end of the day, this is a fraternity. We’re all in this together, competing. But you don’t have to shoot nobody else down.”
In one of the most competitive sports we know of in America, it’s usually been more about than just “team versus team” as fans and critics often wonder who the “best” is at every position. The best quarterback, the best receiver, and ultimately, the best shutdown corner in the NFL. The player who you would never want to face as a receiver.
For a long time that player has been considered Revis, the guy often credited with shutting down half of the field as New York went to back-to-back AFC Championship games on the strength of their defense. But Revis missed all but two games last year due to injury while Sherman made noise not only on the field, making his first All-Pro appearance, but off of it. Jawing against the likes of Tom Brady, Revis, and even ESPN analyst Skip Bayless.
While Revis is rehabbing so that he can get on the field and walk, it appears he has no interest in engaging Sherman for a talk:
“You can’t crown yourself as anything in this league,” Revis said. “You’ve got to earn it.”
