Lions vs. Bills final score: Detroit routs Buffalo 35-13

Matthew Stafford started the game for Detroit, but Buffalo chose to sit Jeff Tuel to protect him from injury.

The Detroit Lions cruised to an easy victory in their preseason finale, routing the Buffalo Bills 35-13 at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Matthew Stafford took the field for two drives, going 1-of-6 for 12 yards. Both drives ended in punts, and Stafford was removed for Shaun Hill.

Hill turned in a strong performance, completing four of his five passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Hill's first pass of the game was an eight-yard touchdown to Patrick Edwards. The Lions started the drive in the red zone thanks to a Bill Bentley interception.

Steven Miller had a solid game for Detroit, rushing for 72 yards on 12 carries. Miller and sixth-round pick Theo Riddick are battling for final running back spot the Lions, reports Chris McCosky of the Detroit News. Riddick finished with 26 yards on 6 carries.

Jeff Tuel did not play at all for Buffalo. Tuel, the presumptive Week 1 starter for the Bills if E.J. Manuel is not healthy, was held out to avoid an injury, according to Andy Young of YNN Buffalo.

Matt Leinart started instead of Tuel and had a terrible outing, going 3-of-10 for 11 yards and two interceptions. Thad Lewis replaced Leinart and turned in a better performance, throwing for 132 yards and one touchdown while adding 51 yards on the ground.

Detroit entered the game as 4 1/2 point favorites, easily covering the spread.
