Stephen Williams injury: Seahawks WR taken to locker room for concussion tests

Williams caught a 50-yard pass and then left Thursday’s game.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Stephen Williams went to the locker room during Thursday's preseason finale against the Oakland Raiders to undergo concussion tests, John Clayton of ESPN reports.

Williams suffered the injury during the Seahawks' first drive of the game. Russell Wilson connected with Williams for a 50-yard completion on the second play, a positive moment that quickly turned sour when the received headed to the locker room afterwards.

The wide receiver spent the first three seasons of his career with the Arizona Cardinals. Williams flashed potential despite signing with the team as an undrafted free agent, but his production tapered off after starting three games his rookie season.

Williams has impressed Pete Carroll and the Seattle coaching staff, entering Thursday leading the Seahawks during preseason with six catches for 186 yards. Wilson also had kind words for Williams, telling Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times:

“His size is great, but his speed is really something that kind of opens yours eyes a little bit. He gets down the field so fast. The touchdown he caught, the (defender) was probably (lined up) 12 yards off of him and he just caught up to him so quickly.”

The Seahawks have already placed fellow wide receiver Percy Harvin on the PUP list.
