D.J. Bryant injury: Ravens LB out for the season

Bryant injured his leg on the final play of the first half during the Ravens’ preseason finale.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker D.J. Bryant is out for the rest of the season after suffering "significant" ligament damage during Thursday's preseason finale, coach John Harbaugh told Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun after the game.

Bryant, who recorded a sack in Baltimore's final exhibition against the St. Louis Rams, injured his knee on the final play of the first half. Doctors were holding Bryant's left leg and he had to be carted off the field.

The linebacker is in his second season out of James Madison. Bryant bounced around the league last year, eventually signing with the Ravens’ practice squad.

Bryant faced long odds to make the 53-man roster, but the Baltimore native loved playing for his hometown team, as he explained to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun:

“I was there just growing up watching the team, loving everything about it. Having the opportunity to play for the Ravens is just great. I have that hard-nosed Baltimore mentality just like the Ravens have. Being from Baltimore and being on this team means everything to me.”

The Ravens will open the season on Sept. 5 against the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium.
