Steelers sign OT D’Anthony Batiste

The Steelers added another camp body to the offensive line, bringing in former Cardinal D’Anthony Batiste.

Tim Fuller-US PRESSWIRE

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed offensive tackle D'Anthony Batiste to an undisclosed contract, according to a press release from the team. The 31-year-old spent the last three years with the Arizona Cardinals.

Batiste served as a backup for most of his five-year career, but was pressed into starting duty last season when Levi Brown went down with an injury. The results were not pretty, either, because Batiste gave up 12 quarterback sacks, 35 hurries and graded out as one of the worst linemen in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. He was finally benched in the Week 9 match against the Packers and didn't see in-game action again until the season finale.

The Steelers already have their starting tackles decided with Marcus Gilbert and Mike Adams so, barring another rash of injuries, Batiste won't be much more than depth if he makes the final roster. At the moment, he's a part of a trio of backups alongside Guy Whimper and Kelvin Beachum.
