Ryan Williams injury: Cardinals RB has treatment on knee, now on crutches

Ryan Williams’ troublesome knee is apparently not getting any better. He is now on crutches and may not practice until next week.

Arizona Cardinals running back Ryan Williams continues to struggle with his knee. He was on crutches Saturday after receiving some kind of treatment on the joint, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.

Head coach Bruce Arians is hopeful that Williams can start practicing next week, but there is still no timetable set for his return. It’s the same knee on which he tore his patellar tendon in 2011, wiping out his rookie season. Williams was hopeful to resume practice this week after an MRI revealed no ligament damage, but he later said there is an irritation of “fatty pad under patellar tendon” and he needed more rest.

Williams has struggled with injuries since being drafted in the second round in 2011. After the patellar tendon rupture, he played only five games in 2012 before being shut down with a shoulder injury. Williams is fighting for playing time with Rashard Mendenhall, Andre Ellington and Stepfan Taylor, but he may be falling behind the eight ball with preseason just around the corner.
