49ers vs. Chargers 2013 final score: San Francisco drubs San Diego on road, 41-6

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick was sharp in his only drive of the game, and the 49ers rolled to an easy win in San Diego in the preseason finale for both teams.

The defending NFC champions ended their preseason on a high note Thursday night, as the 49ers drubbed the Chargers, 41-6, at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

Colin Kaepernick was particularly impressive on his only drive for the 49ers, leading San Francisco to a seven-play, 77-yard march that resulted in a touchdown against Chargers second stringers. Kaepernick completed 3-of-4 passes for 64 yards, culminating in a 43-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Quinton Patton for a 7-0 San Francisco lead.

San Francisco took a 17-6 lead into halftime and never looked back, adding 24 unanswered points in the second half. The 49ers defense held San Diego to 219 yards in the game, including 105 yards through the air.

Charlie Whitehurst completed 9-of-12 passes for 86 yards and an interception for the Chargers, while Fozzy Whittaker ran for 59 yards on 11 carries for San Diego. The Chargers fell to 1-3 in the preseason, including two home losses.

The 49ers were 3-1 in the preseason, including 2-0 on the road.

Injury report

Robert Meachem caught four passes for 23 yards for the Chargers, but the wide receiver suffered a concussion and did not return.

Did they cover?

Not even close. San Diego was a 1-point favorite at home, which seems laughable now, as the Chargers were blown out.

What’s next?

The 49ers open their regular season by hosting the Packers on Sept. 8 in San Francisco, while the Chargers host the Texans one day later in the second Monday Night Football Game on Sept. 9.
