Raiders vs. Seahawks: Seattle’s depth shines in win over Oakland

The question of who to play under center for Oakland didn’t seem to answer itself Thursday.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks closed out a perfect preseason schedule — in fact, Seattle has now won nine straight preseason games, for the little it's worth — with a 22-6 win over the Oakland Raiders on Thursday night. The Seahawks' first unit only played one drive, on which it took the ball 80 yards in six plays to score a touchdown, and after that it was a typical preseason affair: getting one last look at reserves before the final round of cuts.

Danny Kelly at Field Gulls was particularly impressed with tight end Luke Willson, a fifth-round draftee out of Rice:

Luke Willson looks like an NFL tight end. He caught four passes for 45 yards, and gained some nice yards after the catch on a couple of his targets. He’s a smooth athlete and displayed nice soft hands, so I think of anything I took away from this game, it was that Willson looked pretty intriguing.

Willson, who is 6’5 and 250 pounds, is a 23-year-old rookie who briefly spent time in the Toronto Blue Jays’ system in 2011 before returning to Rice for his senior season.

With the Raiders' quarterback controversy still unsettled between Terrelle Pryor and Matt Flynn, it doesn't seem Pryor did much to win the job Thursday, Marcus Allen Krause at Silver and Black Pride wrote:

Terrelle Pryor's day was done after that first half. He finished with 3 of 8 passing for 31 yards with an interception and 3 rushes for 48 yards. Was it enough to be named head coach Dennis Allen's starter week 1? Tough to say considering it all depends on his stance going into this game. At least we will know the answer soon. Unfortunately this game was not the no doubt proof needed to feel certain in what DA will do.

Flynn did not play Thursday. Justin Medlock’s two first-half field goals were all the Raiders would score.
