Cincinnati Bengals defensive end DeQuin Evans has been suspended eight games for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported Friday.

The 26-year-old Evans has been on the Bengals’ practice squad for two seasons after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky. The Bengals initially signed him as a linebacker but moved him back to defensive end where he played in college. The 6’2, 265-pounder had four tackles this preseason for Cincinnati as he competed to make the 53-man roster for the first time.
This is Evans’ second suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, thus the eight games. He was suspended for four games as a member of the Bengals’ practice squad in 2011 when he was a rookie.
Evans did not pick up football until he was 19 years old, according to Mark Maloney of the Lexington-Herald Leader. His first football team was in junior college, where he played two years before transferring to Kentucky.
