NFL roundup: Kevin Kolb to IR, Seneca Wallace not retiring

Kevin Kolb is headed to injured reserve, Seneca Wallace isn’t retiring and more you may have missed from Friday.

Rick Stewart

Buffalo Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb was placed on injured reserve on Friday. Kolb suffered a serious concussion against the Washington Redskins in Week 3 of the preseason. It's not his first concussion, as it has been a recurring problem throughout his career. It's not confirmed that Kolb will hang 'em up and call it a career, but it does seem somewhat likely at this point, given the severity and frequency of head injuries. He was competing with E.J. Manuel for the starting quarterback spot when the injury occurred.

Here’s what else you might have missed from Friday:

Wallace not retiring after all

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Seneca Wallace isn't retiring, his agent said on Friday. 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said that Wallace neglected to play in Thursday's game against the San Diego Chargers because he was done with football, but Wallace's agent says otherwise. It sounds like Wallace didn't want to be the last quarterback playing in the preseason game, and that he doesn't want to be the third man on the depth chart in San Francisco or, presumably, anywhere.

Atlanta releases Banks

The Atlanta Falcons released linebacker Brian Banks on Friday. Banks missed out on his college career when he was accused of rape in 2002. He served five years in prison and spent five years on parole before the woman who claimed to be the victim recanted her story in 2012. He signed with the Falcons, but couldn't catch up with the team and had to be cut.

Evans suspended for PED usage

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end DeQuin Evans has been suspended eight games for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy. Evans has been on the Bengals' practice squad for two seasons. This is his second suspension for violating the PED policy, so he gets the full eight games.

Lamur out for season

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Emmanuel Lamur will reportedly miss the entire 2013-14 season with a shoulder injury. Lamur was carted off the field in the first quarter of Cincinnati's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. He'll probably be placed on injured reserve to officially end his season.
