Geno Smith may have the starting job all but wrapped up after the Jets’ Saturday night scrimmage.

At the Jets' annual Green and White scrimmage on Saturday night, Smith completed 9 of 16 passes for 77 yards. It wasn't a mind-blowing performance, but it was better than incumbent Mark Sanchez, who threw an interception and was loudly booed by fans. Head coach Rex Ryan says that Smith was "absolutely tremendous" in his opening drive, although he struggled to complete passes after that.
Smith has had an up-and-down training camp. Although he has yet to throw an interception, he has been sacked on 15.6 percent of his dropbacks. The Jets' first preseason game will be against the Detroit Lions on Friday, and although Ryan still isn't tipping his hand as to who his starter is, Smith may have to do a complete faceplant in order to not win the job.
