You can tell that football is back when there's drama in the New York Jets camp. Things were no different after Saturday's White and Green scrimmage, when once again Mark Sanchez got on the fans' bad side, and once again a teammate stood up to defend him.
Antonio Cromartie upset Jets fans booed Mark Sanchez
Mark Sanchez had a horrendous performance at the Jets’ scrimmage on Saturday, but teammate Antonio Cromartie still has his back.

Sanchez had a night to forget in the scrimmage, completing 6 of 11 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw an interception, overthrew a wide open Clyde Gates in the endzone, and even fell on his backside during a drop back. Jets fans booed Sanchez after his interception to Antonio Cromartie, but Cromartie wasn't having any of it after the game. From the New York Post:
“I think that’s bullcrap,” Cromartie said about the boos. “My thing is if you’re going to be a fan, be a fan. That’s what it’s all about. He’s our quarterback. Geno’s our quarterback and they’re in competition. You don’t come out here and boo anybody.”
Rookie Geno Smith had a considerably better performance and now seems to have the inside track on the starting job if he’s sharp in the preseason. Smith isn’t polished and will probably take his rookie lumps, but it’s clear by now that the fans are ready for new blood at the position after Sanchez committed 26 turnovers last season.
If you thought the quarterback circus was heated now, wait until the first preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Friday. There's never a dull moment in Jets camp.
