Eric Wright injury: Free agent CB not healthy enough to sign with 49ers

After failing a physical, Eric Wright is still not healthy enough to sign with the 49ers, although the team will visit doctors next week about his status.

USA TODAY Sports

Free agent cornerback Eric Wright is not healthy enough to sign with the San Francisco 49ers yet, according to Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle. It's not known what kind of injury Wright has, but the team will meet with doctors next week to further gauge his status.

The 49ers traded for Wright from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before training camp began, but he failed a physical and the trade was nullified. The Buccaneers released him shortly afterwards, and he hasn't found a new team since then. Wright spent just one season with the Bucs, recording one interception and 39 tackles in 10 games.

San Francisco is in the market for a cornerback once again after losing Chris Culliver for the season with a torn ACL. Wright would be a boost to their inexperienced secondary if he can pass a physical. We should know more about his status in the next week or so.
