Tony Romo injury: Cowboys QB expects to play Friday

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback is ready to get back in action.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

After missing the Hall of Fame Game against the Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo expects to make his preseason debut Friday against the Oakland Raiders, per ESPN's Jean-Jacques Taylor.

Romo sat out all of the Cowboys’ offseason activities while recovering from surgery to remove a cyst on his back. He’s returned for training camp, and his absence in the Hall of Fame Game had less to do with the surgery and more to do with Dallas’ shaky offensive line. The Cowboys’ line was depleted due to injuries going into the game, and head coach Jason Garrett didn’t want to risk leaving his quarterback exposed.

Speaking with Taylor, Romo could barely contain his enthusiasm when asked whether or not he’ll play against the Raiders:

“Heck yeah,” said Romo. “Unless something weird happens and we sit everybody again.”

Romo played in all 16 regular-season games for Dallas last season, completing 65.6 percent of his passes for 4,903 yards, 28 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. He finished the year with a 90.5 passer rating.
