Luke Stocker injury: Buccaneers TE activated from PUP list

Stocker is recovering from a calf injury.

USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers activated tight end Luke Stocker from the physically unable to perform list, per Stephen F. Holder of the Tampa Tribune. Stocker is now eligible to participate in practice, but head coach Greg Schiano says his recovery from a calf injury still has a ways to go.

“Progress is a good way to put it,” Schiano said. “He’s not ready to go, but he was taken off PUP because he was going to do some things with pads on, which is the rule. He’s moving in the right direction.”

The move means Stocker won't be eligible for the PUP list to start the season. Had he been on the list, he would have been forced to miss the first six games of the season. The 25-year-old, entering his third NFL season, hasn't been used as a primary offensive weapon, but with Dallas Clark no longer on the team, he could become a key target in the passing game.

Last season, Stocker played in 16 games and caught 16 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown. Those numbers were up from 12 receptions for 92 yards in 14 games during his rookie year.
