Robert Griffin III injury: Redskins QB ready for more in camp

RGIII is making good progress in his recovery from knee surgery.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is ready to take the next step in his recovery from knee surgery, according to the Associated Press. While head coach Mike Shanahan is being cautious with his prized QB, Griffin says he's further along than his coach might admit.

Says Griffin: “Coach will tell you something else, but I’m ready to move on.”

Griffin suffered a torn ACL during the Redskins' playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 6. He underwent surgery to repair the knee on Jan. 9 and his been in recovery mode ever since. Shanahan has limited Griffin to 7-on-7 drills during training camp, but the quarterback is hoping to get involved in 11-on-11 work sometime next week.

Griffin had a sensational debut campaign for the Redskins in 2012, earning AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Honors at season’s end. In 15 regular-season games, he completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He carried 120 times for 815 yards and seven more scores.

The second overall draft pick led Washington to its first playoff appearance since 2007 and first NFC East title since 1999.
