Terrell Owens drawing NFL interest, per report

Could Terrell Owens be close to signing with an NFL team? His agent said he is drawing interest from several teams.

Joe Nicholson-US PRESSWIRE

It's been more than two years since Terrell Owens played in an NFL regular season game, but he may be close to getting another shot to make a team, according to his agent.

Owens’ agent, Jordan Woy, said he has had discussions with multiple teams who have varying interest in Owens. According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Woy said a few teams have told him they may be interested in Owens later in camp.

“I know if he goes out there and gets a shot, he’ll make a team,” Woy said, via ESPN. “We’ve talked to a lot of teams that have said he’s a great talent, we’re set as of right now, but if we have injuries, we may reach back out.”

According to Woy, Owens has continued to train in case he gets another shot in the league. The 39-year-old receiver is reportedly in great shape. Owens spent part of training camp with the Seattle Seahawks last year, but was released in the final cuts. He appeared to be in top shape last year and while he showed flashes of the dominant form he regularly displayed earlier in his career, he lacked consistency and dropped several balls during the preseason.

Teams have shied away from Owens in the past due to off-the-field distractions. He didn’t draw any unwanted attention during his stint with Seattle last year, however, and could be a low-risk, high-reward opportunity if he proves he can still play at a high level. If Owens does get a shot and makes a team, he will have an opportunity to increase his status in the NFL record book. With a decent season, Owens could move up to third in career receptions and second in career touchdowns. He’s already second in career yards, roughly 7,000 behind Jerry Rice.
