Ed Dickson has a ‘little tear’ in his hamstring

Already without Dennis Pitta for the season, the Ravens are currently without Ed Dickson as well due to a tear in his hamstring.

The Baltimore Ravens will be without Ed Dickson for at least a week after an MRI revealed a slight tear in the tight end's hamstring, according to a report from Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

Dickson left Sunday’s practice early after Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Dickson’s hamstring “grabbed a little bit.” Harbaugh said Baltimore removed Dickson from practice for precautionary reasons and an MRI revealed a slight tear.

While Dickson will miss some time, Harbaugh said the injury was just a “little tear” and Dickson would be held out for “a week or so.” Although he will be held out of practice for a week or more and could miss preseason games, Dickson is expected to be healthy by the time the regular season starts, according to Wilson.

“It’s going to be a matter of time, but it’s not going to be a long time,” Harbaugh said, via Wilson.

Having already lost starting tight end Dennis Pitta for the season due to a fractured hip, Dickson is expected to play an important role for the Ravens this season. Even though he should be healthy by the start of the season, a prolonged absence could hurt Baltimore's offense as Joe Flacco attempts to adjust to playing without Anquan Boldin and Pitta, two of his favorite targets from a season ago.

With Dickson out, Wilson reports recently signed Visanthe Shiancoe will take over as the starting tight end.
