Ravens will re-evaluate Ed Dickson’s injury in a week

Ed Dickson’s hamstring injury still doesn’t sound serious, but Dickson will be out for at least a week.

Rob Carr

After an MRI on Monday showed what John Harbaugh called a "little tear" in Ed Dickson's hamstring, the Ravens head coach said he expected the tight end to be held out for "a week or so." Now, a day later, Harbaugh said Dickson will be re-evaluated after a week, although he still expects him to be ready for the regular season, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

Harbaugh once again said the hamstring tear wasn't a major injury. The fact the Ravens will hold Dickson out for a full week before re-evaluating might sound concerning, but Baltimore may just be taking caution, especially considering its depth at tight end. As Jason Butt of Baltimore Beat Down noted, already without Dennis Pitta, the Ravens can't afford to rush Dickson back and risk further injury. Dickson has been in the system long enough and already has a rapport with Joe Flacco, so there is little benefit in rushing him back early compared to the risk for losing him for an extended period of time.

While Dickson is out, Visanthe Shiancoe will step into the starting role while Billy Bajema serves as a blocking specialist.
