Deon Grant retires from NFL

The veteran safety has stepped away from the game after 11 years.

Nick Laham

Long-time safety Deon Grant has announced his retirement from the NFL, according to Adam Caplan.

Grant, who played 11 seasons in the league, walked away as a New York Giant -- the team he spent the last two years of his career with -- after winning a Super Bowl in 2011. Leaving as a member of Big Blue was something important to the Georgia native.

“I want to be a Giant for the rest of my life,” Grant said via statement.

Grant didn’t play in 2012, but wasn’t officially retired.

Prior to playing with the Giants, Grant played three seasons each with the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks. His best campaign statistically came in 2001 as a rookie with Carolina, when he hauled in a career-high five interceptions along with 71 tackles.

Grant finished his playing days with 30 interceptions and 10 recovered fumbles. Perhaps Grant’s best asset was his durability. In 10 years, Grant never missed a game.
