Trent Richardson injury: Browns RB will miss preseason opener

Cleveland’s franchise back is on the mend again. Is Richardson’s current injury considered serious or is the team just being careful with their offensive star?

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

Updating a previous report, Browns running back Trent Richardson (shin) will not play in Cleveland's preseason opener against the Rams. Richardson was kicked in his right shin during practice last Thursday and has been held out as a precaution.

It has not been an easy road in the NFL thus far for Richardson, the third overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Alabama. Though he started 15 games last season, Richardson played through a myriad of different injuries on his way to 950 yards on 267 carries and 11 touchdowns. He also caught 51 passes for 367 yards as the focal point for the Browns offense.

Hamstring injuries have kept Richardson on the sideline for parts of the 2013 offseason as well, and now with the addition of the shin injury, the team will take every measure possible to ensure that their franchise back is healthy when the regular season starts. Even if it includes him missing some time in the preseason.
