Rookie running back Le'Veon Bell will begin his first preseason game running with the Pittsburgh Steelers' first team, according to Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network. The Steelers and New York Giants open up their preseason schedules on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Heinz Field.

The rookie from Michigan State will have an opportunity to grab a firm hold of the starting job for the regular season.

Bell was drafted out of Michigan State in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, and head coach Mike Tomlin said he has earned his chance to start.
The Steelers' run game struggled mightily in 2012, with Jonathan Dwyer leading the team with only 623 yards. Dwyer, Isaac Redman and Chris Rainey tied for the team lead with only two rushing touchdowns. Bell, meanwhile, was the definition of a workhorse for Michigan State last year, rushing for 1,793 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging a hair under 30 carries per game.
Bell may not have the breakaway speed that some fans would like, but if the Steelers are looking for someone to steady the ship, he may be the perfect fit.
