Chicago Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton is being evaluated for a concussion after being injured against the Carolina Panthers on Friday night. Melton exited the game in the first quarter and has not returned.

The Bears defensive tackle got hurt in the first quarter of Chicago’s first preseason game.


A year after recording six sacks and being named to the first Pro Bowl of his career, Melton is set to be a key player for the Bears on the defensive line. Melton has 13 sacks over the past two years; he became a regular starter on the defensive line for the Bears in 2011. He is currently playing under the franchise tag for the 2013 season.
In the first game of the preseason for both teams, the Bears and Panthers are tied 7-7 at the start of the second quarter. Bears quarterback Jay Cutler finished his night 6-of-8 for 56 yards and an interception, while Cam Newton was 3-of-6 for 16 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Melton had not recorded any tackles prior to his injury.
