Johnny Jolly completes NFL comeback with Packers

Jolly has been out of the NFL since receiving an indefinite suspension in 2010.

USA TODAY Sports

Defensive lineman Johnny Jolly completed his comeback to the NFL, surviving Saturday's roster cuts and making the Green Bay Packers final 53-man roster.

The lineman thanked the Packers and their fans for supporting him, sending out the following tweet after receiving the news:

Jolly has been out of the league for three years with numerous off the field issues. The NFL suspended Jolly indefinitely during the 2010 offseason for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and he was arrested multiple times for felony possession of codeine -- eventually receiving a six-year prison sentence in 2011.

After spending several months behind bars, Jolly earned an early release in May and will be on probation for the next ten years. The big man later applied for reinstatement to the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell granted the defensive lineman a second chance.

More Packers: Tracking the roster cuts

Jolly looked impressive during the Packers training camp, forcing two turnovers with deflections against the St. Louis Rams and recording a sack in Packers' preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Packers originally drafted Jolly out of Texas A&M in the sixth round of the 2006 draft. He was a fixture on their defensive line for awhile, too, starting 39 of 48 games over four seasons.
