NFL injury report 2013: AFC West escapes Week 1 injury-free

The Chiefs, Chargers, Broncos and Raiders all avoided injury in Week 1 and are likely to have the same lineups in Week 2.

The AFC West emerged from Week 1 with two teams with 1-0 records and two teams at 0-1, but managed to remain relatively injury-free during the first slate of games. In fact, the four teams may have avoided losing a single player for Week 2, which is a somewhat miraculous feat in the injury-riddled NFL.

If there's one player that could be a concerning loss though, it's Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles who suffered a bruised quadricep in the third quarter of the team's 28-2 defeat of the Jacksonville Jaguars. After he was helped off the field, Charles did not return to the game and the Chiefs offense struggled to function in his absence, punting on the final five drives of the game.

On Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid downplayed the injury and said that Charles has “a range of motion” and “he’s ok.”

The only other reported injury in the AFC West wasn't a serious one, as Raiders safety Tyvon Branch is expected to play in Week 2 after injuring his shoulder on Sunday. While a collision with a teammate banged up his shoulder much, Branch never left Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts and isn't expected to miss practice time in preparation for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
