Screaming New York Jets fan child is stereotypical and doomed

A word of warning from a person who was brought to a Jets game as a child: DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILD DO A JETS GAME.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

This video of a seven-year-old Jets fan giving a Buccaneers fan hell has made the internet rounds, primarily because the child, like life and the stereotypical Jets fan, is nasty, brutish, and short. I want to point out the bad parenting decision made:

(From The Big Lead initially)

It’s not the one you think, of allowing your seven-year-old kid to go out in public and yell IN YOUR FACE LOSER at total strangers.

The reason I am a Jets fan is not because my father was a Jets fan, or because I grew up in a neighborhood or community with many Jets fans. It’s because when I was three, someone gave my dad tickets to a Jets game, and for some horrible reason, he took me and my older brother. My recollection isn’t very good. I remembered that Boomer Esiason was the good player and that the Jets won. I don’t remember who the team was playing and certainly did not understand much about the sport, but I decided that day that my favorite football team was the New York Jets.

This Sunday, I jumped up from a chair and celebrated when a Buccaneers player tackled Geno Smith out of bounds, allowing the Jets to advance the ball 15 yards and kick a game-winning field goal to win.

This is my life.

It’s nice that you have an urge to do nice things for your children. That’s instinctual, and it means you’re a good parent.

But let me assure you: taking your child to a New York Jets game is not a nice thing. Allow them to get out while they still can.
