Ramses Barden released by Giants

Ramses Barden is a free agent after being released from New York’s injured reserve list.

Jim O’Connor-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants released Ramses Barden from their injured reserve list with an injury settlement on Tuesday, according to Connor Orr of the Star-Ledger.

Barden was initially reported to have been released during final cuts, only to instead land on injured reserve. Since the Giants released him with an injury settlement, the 27-year-old Barden will now be free to sign with another team. Drafted in the third round in 2009, Barden never lived up to expectations, catching 29 passes in four seasons. He had the best year of his career last season, catching 14 passes for 220 yards.

At 6'6, some thought Barden would play a similar role to Plaxico Burress with the Giants. Instead, he played in just three games as a rookie and was passed on the depth chart by Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz and others. Barden was an unrestricted free agent this past offseason, but did not generate much interest. He re-signed with the Giants on one-year minimum-salary deal in late May.
