NFL power rankings 2013, Week 2: Eagles are cause for some debate

Most of the media found agreement about NFL teams’ placement in the power rankings, but the Eagles were the cause for some discrepancies.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The first week of the NFL season wasn’t without upsets, but it also didn’t feature many stunning showings. Teams expected to be bad were generally bad and teams expected to be good were generally good.

As such, there wasn’t a tremendous amount of movement among teams in the power rankings from throughout the Internet. In fact, most media outlets seemed to be in general agreement about the strength of the 32 NFL teams. In Ryan Van Bibber’s rankings for SB Nation, no team was more than three slots different in the rankings than the composite average of the power rankings from the biggest media outlets.

If any team created room for debate in Week 1, it was the performance of the Philadelphia Eagles. After a 4-12 season in 2012 led to the firing of Andy Reid and hiring of Chip Kelly, the new-look Eagles looked like an offensive juggernaut early against the Washington Redskins before slowing down in the second half.

It was enough to sell some, including NBC Sports’ Mike Florio, who bumped the Eagles all the way to No. 5. Van Bibber wasn’t as impressed, moving the Eagles from 22 to 17, an entire 12 slots behind Florio’s ranking of the team.

Here’s a look at how the sports media outlets ranked the teams after Week 1:
