NFL roundup: Shane Vereen placed on IR, Ndamukong Suh fined 100K

New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen was placed on injured reserve, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was fined $100,000 and more you may have missed from Tuesday.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen was placed on injured reserve with the designation to return on Tuesday. Vereen fractured a bone in his wrist in Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills. It was initially thought that he wouldn't be out that long, but the placement on IR means he will have to wait until at least Week 11 to return to action. Stevan Ridey was benched in the game due to his fumbles, but he'll likely get another chance to show the Patriots he can be reliable.

Here’s what else you might have missed from Tuesday:

Suh fined $100,000

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was fined $100,000 by the NFL on Tuesday. Suh went low on a block of Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman John Sullivan following a Detroit interception. Sullivan wasn't anywhere near being able to get in on the play and the block was totally unnecessary. The fine is steep due to Suh's history of infractions.

Zbikowski suspended

Current free agent safety Tom Zbikowski was given a four-game suspension for the NFL on Tuesday. It seems that the suspension is for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Zbikowski was cut by the Chicago Bears last month after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Baltimore Ravens. He'll obviously be on the market until his suspension is done or close to it.

Atlanta works out receivers

The Atlanta Falcons brought in a trio of wide receivers for workouts on Tuesday. They brought in Mohamed Massaquoi, Courtney Roby and Lavelle Hawkins. All three have been searching for teams this season. The Falcons need the help, as Roddy White is struggling through an ankle injury. It's not yet known how severe the injury is, but the Falcons need depth alongside Harry Douglas, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez.

Te’o avoids injured reserve

The San Diego Chargers will not place rookie linebacker Manti Te'o on injured reserve. Te'o is dealing with a lingering foot injury, the severity of which is unknown at this point. The Chargers don't know how long Te'o will be out, but if he had been placed on injured reserve with the designation for return, he would have had to miss eight weeks of action.

Giants re-sign Jacobs

The New York Giants re-signed running back Brandon Jacobs on Tuesday. Jacobs doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence after flaming out in his post-Giants career, but a return could be great for him. The Giants worked out running backs after second-year running back David Wilson fumbled twice in the opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
