Buffalo Bills CEO Russ Brandon says Jairus Byrd hasn’t asked for trade

Rumors have been swirling about the future of the Bills’ star safety all offseason.

Rick Stewart

Buffalo Bills CEO Russ Brandon appeared on a local radio show Wednesday morning and claimed that safety Jairus Byrd has never requested a trade, according to WGR550 radio's Twitter account.

Byrd has been unhappy throughout the offseason and preseason with a contract that is set to expire at the end of the season. The safety's value is at an all-time low as he battles through plantar fasciitis, an ailment that kept him out of the Bills season-opener against the New England Patriots.

While Byrd is on the shelf, Da'Norris Searcy will be seeing more time at the free safety spot.

If Buffalo trades Byrd, they would likely want a couple of draft picks in return. Byrd has amassed 18 interceptions, including nine his rookie season, over the course of his five-year career. The former second-round pick came up with five picks and 53 solo tackles last season.
