Mark Sanchez got his second opinion from Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. The New York Jets quarterback has yet to make public what he was told by Andrews, however. Sanchez decided to seek a second opinion after being diagnosed with a partially torn labrum. The Jets are trying to decide whether or not he needs surgery.

The Jets QB saw Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday and the good doc’s diagnosis could play an important role in determining Sanchez’s future in New York.
Sanchez missed Week 1 of the regular season due to the shoulder injury he suffered during preseason, giving rookie Geno Smith the reins of the offense by default and leaving a contested quarterback battle unresolved. Sanchez appeared to outperform Smith during preseason, but the Jets might have turned to Smith regardless because of his youth and potential.
Sanchez has been officially ruled out for Thursday night's Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots, giving Smith his second consecutive start. If/when Sanchez is cleared to play this season, there is no guarantee he will see the field. Jets blog Gang Green Nation believes we may have seen the last of Sanchez in a Jets uniform:
At this point the news might have less to do with the Jets and more about Sanchez’s upcoming attempt to reinvent himself with a new team. Whether Geno Smith sinks or swims, it feels like the Jets have officially turned the page for good from Sanchez.
