Vikings vs. Bears 2013 odds: Chicago opens as a 5-point favorite

After an impressive season-opening win, the Bears are favored to make it 2-0.

With back-to-back games against playoff teams to open the season, the Bears appeared to have a tough early season schedule. Now, following a win against Cincinnati and a disappointing loss by Minnesota, Chicago is favored to make it a 2-0 start.

The Bears opened as a 5-point favorite against the division-rival Vikings and are now favored by as many as seven points, according to the latest odds from OddsShark. This is the second straight week Chicago opened as the betting favorite, as the Bears were a 3-point favorite against the Bengals.

Whether the Bears are able to notch another win may depend on their ability to slow Adrian Peterson. Peterson took his first carry of the season 78 yards for a score against Detroit, but gained just 15 yards the rest of the game. He racked up 262 yards on 49 carries against Chicago last season.

Oddsmakers are expecting a defensive battle with the total set at 40 points, the second-lowest opening total of the Week 2 slate. Both teams scored 24 points in Week 1 and recent history has been split with the total going over five times in the last 10 meetings.

Chicago has dominated the matchup recently, both straight up and against the spread. The Bears are 7-3 in their last 10 games against the Vikings and are 6-1 in the last seven games against the spread. The teams split the season series 1-1 last season with both home teams winning and covering.
