The NFL season is still young and a lot of teams are still filled with hope -- earnest, naive, dumb hope. The Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs are two of those teams, despite recent history suggesting that something at some point will go horribly wrong for each this season. Since 2007, both teams have just one playoff appearance apiece.
NFL picks and predictions 2013, Cowboys vs. Chiefs
The Cowboys and Chiefs are both looking to erase the memories of recent woes. Experts are split on whose early-season momentum will end Sunday.

But maybe this year is different, and both teams are certainly off to strong starts. The Cowboys held off a late rally to score a pivotal win over their division rival the New York Giants. Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray turned in encouraging performances, and the defense stumped the Giants for most of three quarters. The Chiefs, meanwhile, beat down the Jacksonville Jaguars, 28-2, as if to assert that their 2-14 record in 2012 was a fluke.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, experts haven’t been able to reach a consensus on the outcome of the game. The home team Chiefs appear to have slight advantage. Eight of 11 ESPN experts sided with Kansas City, as did five of nine experts at CBS Sports. The line in Vegas seems to reflect the split, making the Chiefs roughly 3-point favorites after opening the game as a pick’em on sports books.
The game should be fascinating to watch, with both teams trying to establish early-season momentum in hopes of conquering their respective playoff humps.
