NFL roundup: Mark Sanchez may need surgery, Jermichael Finley misses practice

Mark Sanchez could need surgery to repair a torn labrum, Jermichael Finley missed practice and more you might have missed from Wednesday.

Jeff Zelevansky

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez might need surgery on his injured right shoulder. It's not yet known for sure whether or not he'll need it -- and a decision may not come for weeks, but he probably will not return to action any time soon. Sanchez will continue to rehab the shoulder until the decision on surgery is made. The Jets are moving forward with Geno Smith as their starter, and would be even if Sanchez was healthy, but this likely means Smith has a longer leash than if Sanchez was at 100 percent.

Here’s what else you might have missed on Wednesday:

Finley misses practice

Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley received treatment for his injured toe on Wednesday. Finley missed practice with the injury, which he sustained against the San Francisco 49ers in the team's Week 1 loss. Finley stayed in the game, but his status for Week 2 could be in doubt. Finley knows the offense well and doesn't need a full week of practice, so he has that going for him.

Miller has California warrant

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller has a warrant out for his arrest in the state of California. Miller's warrant is due to a failure to appear in court for a traffic ticket issued in 2012. Miller is already suspended for six games for other issues and dealing with other traffic violations elsewhere.

Suh cleared in incident

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been cleared by Birmingham police following an incident last month in which a cable repairman alleged Suh pointed a gun at him. According to reports Wednesday, police reviewed surveillance tapes and concluded that Suh's version of events was correct. It's good to get this off-the-field distraction out of the way, though Suh has a recent $100,000 fine to worry about.

Hawks sign Davis

The Seattle Seahawks signed tight end Kellen Davis on Wednesday. Davis had previously worked out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, and signed with the Cleveland Browns earlier this year before he failed to make the 53-man roster. Anthony McCoy has a torn Achilles, and the Seahawks need the depth behind Zach Miller.
