Andrew Whitworth injury: Bengals LT discloses 2nd knee surgery

The hulking offensive lineman underwent knee operation during training camp.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth had a second knee surgery before the season started to repair a lingering injury, according to Cincinnati.com.

Whitworth missed Cincinnati's season opener against the Chicago Bears while recovering and is considered day-to-day at this point, waiting for medical clearance. Whitworth explains exactly what has been going on behind the scenes, per the piece:

“I had a little re-injury and we set the timeline all over, got that situation fixed and now we’re close to being back to ready. ... It was a totally different episode that caused another injury because you’re already dealing with something that already has been worked on,” Whitworth said. “The quicker you go post-procedure, you’re endangering yourself, so we had to give ourselves a little time to heal and as soon as we’re ready, we’re ready.”

Andre Collins has been filling in while Whitworth is on the shelf and did a solid job against Chicago. It's likely Collins will once again be in the starting lineup against the Steelers, while Whitworth has a decent chance of getting back for the following week against the Green Bay Packers.

Whitworth would certainly like to be back on the field as soon as possible considering the expectations placed on the Bengals this year, with many pundits expecting them to win the AFC North and possibly make a run at the Super Bowl.
