New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola could be sidelined for two-to-six weeks with a groin injury, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports. Initial reports concerning the situation were more optimistic, but it appears the injury is worse than expected.

Injury reports throughout the week were hazy regarding Amendola's status against the New York Jets. An early report indicated that he would miss Thursday night's game, but the Patriots organization is well-known for keeping injury information private. Amendola was listed on the official report as "limited" in practice with a "doubtful" status for Week 2.

Amendola was a vital part of the Patriots' offense last week against Buffalo as Tom Brady's top option. He was targeted a team-high 14 times, catching 10 passes for 104 yards. It's just the latest bump for New England's offense as Rob Gronkowski continues to recover from off-season surgery, while running back Shane Vereen was placed on injured reserve earlier this week.

With Amendola out, the Patriots will put more emphasis on Julian Edelman and Kenbrell Thompkins to carry the load.
