Dolphins vs. Colts injury report: Vick Ballard done for the season

Indianapolis is down at least one key skill position player and might be without another. Miami is banged up as well.

Andy Lyons

The Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins are both already dealing with several injuries as they prepare for their Week 2 matchup. The Colts survived the Raiders in Week 1, though it wasn't without its costs -- including a hip injury suffered by tight end Dwayne Allen. Making matters worse, starting running back Vick Ballard suffered an ACL tear during practice this week, ending his season.

According to Chuck Pagano, Ballard hurt himself in a non-contact situation -- he planted his foot and the knee gave way. Allen, meanwhile, did not practice all week and is listed as questionable. Receiver David Reed (quad) is out, and linebackers Kavell Conner (ankle), Jerrell Freeman (quad) and Erik Walden (hamstring) are questionable. Pat Angerer (concussion) is probable.

The Dolphins prevailed over Cleveland last weekend and now they can improve to 2-0 in road games, giving them a bit of a leg up on the rest of the AFC East heading into the rest of the season. Defensive back Dimitri Patterson has been dealing with a groin injury and is listed as questionable, but he believes he will play against Indianapolis.

Linebackers Dannell Ellerbe (pectoral) and Jonathan Freeny (shoulder) fully participated in practice all week, as did receiver Brandon Gibson (wrist), defensive end Dion Jordan (shoulder) and tight end Dion Sims (groin). Along with those five, safety Reshad Jones (thumb) and linebacker Josh Kaddu (illness) are probable.

Cornerback Will Davis (toe), quarterback Pat Devlin (ankle) and cornerback Jamar Taylor (groin) will not play.

The game’s complete injury report is available here.
