Jamaal Charles injury: Chiefs RB expected to play vs. Cowboys

The Chiefs’ No. 1 back will suit up against the Cowboys despite the quad injury he suffered during the second half of Kansas City’s win over the Jaguars.

Jamaal Charles will play Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Dallas Cowboys, the Chiefs announced Friday per Adam Teicher of ESPN. Charles did not practice Wednesday, and was limited in practice Thursday with a quadriceps injury he suffered in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. There is no word yet on his participation Friday.

Charles suffered a quad contusion after landing awkwardly during the third quarter of Sunday’s win. He returned for one carry at the end of the quarter, but sat out the rest of the game to finish with 16 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown, with three receptions for 23 yards. Though there was trepidation when the running back rested Wednesday, his status against the Cowboys was never seriously in doubt.

With Charles on the field Sunday, fans should see a great duel against Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray. Both backs have the stigma of being oft injured, but they are also two of the most impressive athletes at their position in the NFL. Murray appears to be 100 percent coming off an offseason hamstring injury. He rushed for 86 yards on 20 carries and 39 yards on eight receptions during the Cowboys' season-opening win over the New York Giants.
