The Redskins needed to clear an active roster spot after signing kicker John Potter on Saturday and White was apparently the odd man out. He was the fourth quarterback on the depth chart behind Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins and Rex Grossman, though Rapoport believes the team will bring him back next week if he clears waivers.
White signed with the Redskins in the offseason hoping to make his first NFL team in three years. He was drafted in the second round by the Miami Dolphins in 2009 after a sterling career at West Virginia.
Washington signed Potter after Kai Forbath went down with a groin injury. A seventh-round pick with the Buffalo Bills in 2012, Potter has never appeared in a regular season game. He's expected to make his NFL debut against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, though Forbath is only officially listed as questionable.
